Trump Administration’s New Tariffs Largely Exempt Art and Antique Imports

The recent tariffs announced by Donald Trump will exempt art and antique imports from most countries, The Art Newspaper has reported. This was confirmed in a statement from the United States Trade Representative’s office on 23 July.
The wider decision to impose tariffs of 10% or 12.5% on around imports from 80 countries will probably be reviewed by the US Supreme Court, since taxation and tariff imposition powers belong to Congress.
Earlier this month, Trump announced 50% tariffs on all imports from Canada, including contemporary and historical art, antiques and antiquities, stamps, coins and most other types of collectibles.
