Dépendance, a Brussels-based gallery known for its adventurous programme of conceptually considered artists, has closed after 23 years of operations.

According to artnet, the gallery’s founders, Michael Callies and Stephan Jaax, developed their business in a different manner to many other spaces at the time: prioritising a single location, considered roster and spare art fair schedule. This enabled Dépendance to host various experimental shows, unconstrained by commercial success.

Exhibiting artists included the likes of Ed Atkins, Allison Katz, Michael Krebber and Haegue Yang.
