Tomorrow marks the reopening of Lisbon’s Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, following eighteen months of renovation.

Housed in a modernist building designed by the architects Ruy Jervis d’Athouguia, Pedro Cid and Alberto Pessoa in 1969, the museum contains the collection of philanthropist and collector Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian (1896-1955). Its objects number over 6,000 and include Islamic art, Egyptian antiques, Chinese porcelain, European Old Masters, ceramics and jewellery.

The museum is housed within the grounds of the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, an 18-acre woodland comprising a number of iconic mid-century buildings.
