The Singaporean visual artist and filmmaker Ho Tzu Nyen has won the thirty-sixth Fukuoka Grand Prize, receiving an award of ¥5 million (£23,400). The prize recognises individuals who have made substantial contributions to both Asian studies and Asian arts and culture, and was established by the Japanese city of Fukuoka and the Fukuoka City International Foundation.

Ho is currently working on the Gwangju Biennale, due to open in September, and previously curated the 2019 Asian Art Biennial in Taiwan. His installations and digital animations address the complexities of Southeast Asian histories and mythologies, layered with various literary, art historical and musical references.
