The anniversary edition of Gallery Weekend Beijing opens tomorrow, 21 May 2026.
It will encompass a ‘Main Sector’ consisting of 30 galleries and 10 non-profit institutions, and a reinstated ‘Visiting Sector’ with five international galleries. There will also be an ‘Up & Coming Sector’ curated by Yang Zi, titled Ten Sentences of Neo Shamanism.
Gallery Weekend Beijing was launched 10 years ago using the blueprint of Gallery Weekend Berlin by former director Thomas Eller, a German artist and writer. It began as a programme including just 14 galleries and four museums, but has since grown into a city-wide and internationally relevant initiative.
Highlights include: Jean-Michel Othoniel’s Dazzling Trilogy at the Espace Louis Vuitton Beijing, Fu Luofei’s retrospective at Taikang Art Museum, Ouyang Chan’s ‘Main Sector’ special exhibition, Nirvana, as well as international visitors like Capsule Shanghai and Hole Contemporary Art Platform (Shanghai) and Alex Vervoordt Gallery (Antwerp/Hong Kong).
