The Iraqi curator Wassan Al-Khudhairi has been appointed as the Art Director of Art Basel’s 2027 Qatar edition. The fair is presented in partnership with Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) and QC+, a Doha-based cultural consultancy firm. It will take place from 28 January to 30 January 2027 across Msheireb Downtown Doha.
The curatorial theme is ‘between / بين’, emphasising mutability and the resistance of singular definition. The fair will continue the structure of its first edition in 2026, which saw participating galleries present solo exhibitions foregrounding individual voices and responding to the thematic prompt.
Al-Khudhairi possesses regional expertise exemplified by her previous role as the Founding Director of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Qatar, which opened in 2010. She will curate the event in collaboration with Vincenzo de Bellis, Chief Artistic Officer and Global Director of Fairs at Art Basel.
