VALIE EXPORT has died age 85.
The groundbreaking Austrian artist and filmmaker known for her contributions to feminist art passed away three days before she was due to turn 86.
In the late 1960s, EXPORT’s performances gained notoriety, particularly her action piece TAP and TOUCH Cinema, during which she strapped a curtained box to her chest and, with collaborator Peter Weibel, invited shoppers in Vienna’s city centre to touch her bare breasts.
In later years, EXPORT participated in numerous renowned international exhibitions and held several teaching positions.
