Gwangju Biennale Reinstates Taiwan Pavilion
Following accusations of censorship, the participation of Taiwanese artists will now be named the Taiwan Pavilion rather than the ‘NTMoFA Pavilion’

Following accusations of censorship, the participation of Taiwanese artists at the Gwangju Biennale will now be named the Taiwan Pavilion rather than the previously advertised ‘NTMoFA Pavilion’, after the acronym of its organising institution, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, the Gwangju Biennale Foundation has announced.
The move comes after the pavilion’s artists and curators, as well as Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, issued statements calling the previous naming of the pavilion an act of ‘political censorship’. A letter of support demanding the reinstatement of the name ‘Taiwan Pavilion’ was also published and signed by several artists and curators participating in the Gwangju Biennale.
The Gwangju Biennale will take place from 5 September to 15 November.
