Glasgow School of Art Says They ‘Cannot Rebuild’ Mackintosh Building Alone
The announcement follows the settlement of a longstanding dispute with insurers regarding reimbursement following the fire

The Glasgow School of Art has announced that they cannot afford to rebuild the Mackintosh Building, which was damaged in a 2018 fire, without external funding.
The iconic building was constructed by Scotland’s most famous architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, in 1910. The 2018 fire was the second blaze to hit it.
The announcement follows the settlement of a longstanding dispute with insurers regarding reimbursement following the fire, which the school says has offered ‘financial clarity’. As a consequence, they are looking for external investors which can help rebuild the site.
